The Next Step

Faithful Christians have some work to do.

When the Supreme Court found gay marriage in the Constitution, it joined the liberal press, colleges, the entertainment industry, some in the armed forces, teachers unions, the mental health field, left leaning churches, the Democratic Party, the Presidency, and the entire left wing of our culture who see no problem on this issue. So when you line up all the Bible verses on the subject (Genesis 19, Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-28, 1Corinthians 6:20 and others), it is tempting to conclude they just can't mean what they say. Guess again. The warnings are blunt and harsh. Don't do this. Huge problems here. Even now we see a frenzy with gayness that when aroused, reminds one of Genesis chapter 19; baring their fangs and showing their flaws at those who only want to practice polite dissent.

Per the warnings of scripture, the long term damage to our culture over this issue will be awful. This is such a bad idea it means the entire Left could lose, and I mean all of it. It will be their own dumb fault too. Christians have a way of winning battles that those who oppose us never quite grasp.

It is the next step after this issue that concerns me. Today it is clear. No I don't believe gay marriage is a good thing. Yes, I often see Judeo-Christian values more, but not always, on the Right. But I also believe in a Bible ethic that transcends Left and Right. As a Christian I am to take sides only against evil, starting with the evil in the one I have the most control over (Luke 6:42). If the entire Looney Left loses, and the Righteous Right arises, that doesn't mean I win or that our job as believers is done. The Christian church must always balance it's great truths and high moral standards with an equal amount of mercy and grace (Proverbs 3:3; 1John 1:14,17) no matter which way the culture swings. That is the church that can best help the country preserve it's great ideas, like government by consent of the governed, while it dumps the bad ones. That job ahead of us will be much more complex. Therein lies our real work.
